There was once an old farmer who was dying. The farmer had worked hard in his vineyard all his life.
Before he died he wanted to teach his two sons how to be good farmers. He called them and said, "My sons, before I die, I want you to know that there is a treasure buried in the vineyard. Promise me that you will look for it when I'm dead."
As soon as their father died, the sons began looking for the treasure. They worked very hard in the hot sun digging with their hoes and spades. As they worked, they wondered what their father had left for them.
When they finished digging and tilling all the fields the sons said, "There is no treasure here!" They were very upset and disappointed after finding not a single penny.
But then the grapes started to appear on the vines. The grapes grew very well and were the biggest and best in the area.
“Our treasure is in our hard work and care of the earth," said the sons. From then on they always cared for the land and were rewarded with good crops.
