Apollo was the Greek god of light, music, and truth. People said he made the sun rise each day and brought warmth and brightness to the world. He also played beautiful music on his lyre, a small instrument like a harp.
Apollo was the son of Zeus, the king of the gods. He had a twin sister, Artemis, who was the goddess of hunting. Artemis loved the moon and the forests. Apollo loved the sun and the bright sky. Both twins were great hunters, and Apollo often carried a silver bow to protect people from monsters.
The Ancient Greeks loved Apollo and thought he was one of the most handsome gods. He had many important jobs. He was the god of healing, the god of music, the god of truth, and the god of light.
Apollo also had many talents. He could play music, write poems, and even tell the future. People traveled from far away to his temple at Delphi to ask questions and hear answers from the Oracle (like a fortune teller), who spoke for Apollo.
His temple at Delphi was one of the most special places in the ancient world. Many people believed it was the center of the world. Parts of the temple still stand today as an important World Heritage Site.
