Long ago in Ancient Greece, there lived a girl named Medusa. She had beautiful long hair, bright eyes, and a pretty face. But Medusa had a problem - she was very unkind. She bragged about how beautiful she was and laughed at other people. She even said she was more beautiful than the goddess Athena.
Athena, the goddess of wisdom, did not like this. To teach Medusa a lesson, Athena used her magic. She turned Medusa’s hair into twisting, hissing snakes and gave her eyes the power to turn anyone who looked at her into stone.
Medusa was frightened, so she ran away and lived alone in a cave. People were afraid of her and told stories about the woman with snakes for hair. They whispered, "Don’t look at her eyes or you’ll turn into a statue!"
Many heroes went to the cave to try to kill Medusa, but none came back. They all became stone.
At last, a man named Perseus came to the cave with a shiny shield. He did not look at Medusa’s eyes. Instead, he watched her reflection in the shield, like a mirror. When Medusa came close, he used his sword and cut off her head.
Medusa’s head still had the power to turn people into stone. Perseus kept it safely in a special bag from the gods. He used the head as a powerful weapon to turn monsters and enemies into stone.
