Poseidon was a powerful god in Greek mythology. He was the god of the sea and ruled over all oceans and sea creatures.
Poseidon was the brother of Zeus, Hera, and Hades. After defeating the Titans, the three brothers shared the world. Zeus became ruler of the sky, Hades ruled the Underworld, and Poseidon ruled the sea.
Poseidon built a grand palace under the sea and rode through the water in a gold chariot. He carried a powerful weapon called a trident, which looked like a three-pointed spear. With one strike of his trident, Poseidon could create storms, calm the waves, or even shake the entire Earth.
Although Poseidon spent much of his time in the sea, he also had a connection to something on land - the horse. According to the myths, Poseidon created the first horse out of sea foam. Some stories say he did this to impress a goddess. Others say he made the horse because he wanted a fast and beautiful creature to show his power.
Poseidon became known not only as the god of the sea, but also as the god of horses. It is said that he was the father of Pegasus, the flying horse, created from the blood of Medusa after she was beheaded.
The Ancient Greeks honored Poseidon with horse races and prayed to him before big events. They also built temples by the sea and prayed to him to protect their ships and bring good weather.
